Ontario History

Ontario was first started when a Canadian Engineer by the name of George Chaffey purchased the Cucamonga Desert back in 1881. His vision was that if properly watered, it could churn out a great profit. With his brother William on board, they bought the San Antonio lands. They were able to purchase up to 6,218 acres and water rights for $60,000. Later the Chaffey brothers tried to replicate this in Australia as well, with Charles Franklin becoming the guiding force for those beginning years. Just like most cities nearby, Ontario was well known for their citrus trees. A few grove houses still exist to this day. Jumping forward again, in 1923 Judge Archie Mitchell, Waldo Waterman, and some other airplane enthusiasts established Latimer Field. Later on, this field would be well known for serving as training grounds for pilots that were getting ready to serve during WWII. After WWII, much of this land started to diversity and the city began expanding. To learn more click on the link below to read the full story.
